Outreach Lunches and Scrabble Club

Further to our previous article, we are pleased to report we are still going strong!

We have added a couple of items to our menu and people are more than pleased with the prices — in fact, one lady said we were too cheap! Speaking personally, Celia and I think the fellowship has grown and we are happy to say we have several 'regulars' - sometimes we can even guess what they are going to order. There are more members on the Scrabble table too - I think Kate has been out recruiting!

Our aim is not to make a profit but we have still been able to make more donations to charities even after paying the Church expenses, ie electricity, etc. Others who have benefited from the surplus monies are as follows:-

- Tamsin Thorne of the Deaf Church towards attending 'Signs of God' convention £60

- St. Julia's Hospice £50

- ShelterBox £50

- Merlin Project — help towards therapy for MS sufferers £100

- Tear Fund £50

- Member of Deaf Church £50

- 24/7 Week of Prayer £10

With previous donations this makes approximately £900 to date — October 2006 was our third anniversary.

What we are desperately in need of, to spread the load, is helpers. Of the original group of 12 we now have 5 regulars (with two conscripted husbands!) and 2 periodicals with other Church commitments. The average number of meals over a 4 hour period on a Saturday is 25 to 28 — so Jamie Oliver needn't worry!

It's not really hard work and you meet some lovely people. You can even have a jacket potato for lunch — if there are any left! At present we do one duty every sixth week — with more helpers we can spread the duty longer. We could also do with some help on the cake rota as well.

Even if you can't serve regularly please come along one Saturday and join us in whatever capacity — we look forward to seeing you!
