SPCK Bookstall News

As most of you know, the contents of the Church bookstall come from SPCK in Truro. Some of you may have heard that SPCK bookshops have had problems, and after 309 years of marketing Christian books have had to cut their losses and look for another means of keeping open their 23 shops throughout England and Wales. I am pleased to say that thanks to an American based Christian Trust this has now become possible. As from November 1st. SPCK bookshops will transfer to the St. Stephen the Great Charitable Trust but will still be known as SPCK. The following comes from a press release on 20th October:-

'SSG and SPCK share a strong commitment to communicate the richness of the Christian faith. SSG intend to employ a vigorous marketing strategy for the SPCK bookshops. 'People in our stressful modern age care deeply about spirituality and long for a deeper faith. SPCK Bookshops will offer a primary solution to these questions of faith' said Mark Brewer, Chairman of SSG. 'SPCK will continue into its fourth century with its shops as places where all people, Christian or otherwise, are welcome and given the chance to widen their spiritual horizons.''

In real terms this means that your bookstall will remain as it is, still helping us all grow in faith and helping our Church as well. The SPCK shop in Truro gives us 10% discount and so 10% of all sales goes to projects in our Church. So far I have been able to donate several sums of money, up to £50 at times, to our Church thanks to your generosity. I am more than happy to keep the bookstall going here. Please feel free to ask me, even when there is not a bookstall that week, if you want a book, gift, card or CD and, as far as I am able, I will bring them for you, adding to the profit of the next bookstall.

Happy buying!
