Easter Reflections ~ A Meditation
Lord, my love is weak indeed
Compared to the strength of yours.
Would I have slept on as your disciples did,
Whilst all through the night in dark Gethsemane
You, in your humanity,
Sweated blood in prayer,
That you might yet be spared?
Your agony endured throughout the night,
Until at morning light
Judas, your betrayer, led the soldiers to your side â€'
He, who by his kiss sealed your condemnation
And his own suicide.
Whilst you, in submission to your Heavenly Father's will,
Walked with your captors to your trial.
And Pilate, not willing you should die,
Declared your innocence to the mob â€'
Who shouted out the more for Jesus' blood.
And why?
Because He had declared Himself to be the Son of God.
"King of the Jews" wrote Pilate,
In a sign o'er Jesus' head.
"Take it down," the chief priests said, "write something else instead".
"What I have written, I have written,
I will not remove the sign."
And so a King through David's line
Now reigns in Heaven for evermore.
