Danggwa

Danggwa

Once again, Danggwa and the other Agape children had a great summer break. It lasted almost seven weeks and there were many fun-filled activities that they got to participate in. The biggest highlight of summer for Danggwa was the Songkran celebration, which is the Thai New Year. This is observed by a countrywide water fight! Danggwa got to ride in the truck and go around the city, splashing water on other revellers. We also had our own celebration at the Agape Home and there were many refreshing water fights among the staff and children.

Over the summer one of our office staff held a course called “Basic Life Skills”. She taught Danggwa and her group various skills that we noticed needed working on – speaking politely, table manners, listening skills and the proper way to take a shower. There was a lot of laughter at the table as Danggwa and friends tried to sit up straight, keep their elbows in, hold their fork and spoon properly and not chew with their mouths open. At the end of the course, all the kids showed improvements in these areas.

Every year at the end of summer break, the Agape kids put on a summer concert for the staff and nannies. Danggwa’s age group made ingenious puffy skirts out of plastic bags for their dance performance. They picked their own song and came up with all the dance moves on their own. It was a great afternoon and the perfect ending to yet another great school break at the Agape Home.
