How to Meet God!
How to Meet God!
One day a little lad wanted to meet God. He figured it must be a long way to where God lived, so he packed a small backpack with his favourites: twinkies (ie. cup or fairy cakes – Ed.) and a pack of six root beer sodas (ginger beers) and began his journey to meet God.
He walked and walked for what seemed to him to be many miles, but was in reality only three blocks. He needed a rest so he sat down on the park bench next to a very old man who was feeding the pigeons.
The lad watched the man as he opened his backpack and took out a root beer when he noticed the man looked hungry. So he offered the man a twinkie. Gratefully the man received it with a nod and a smile. The lad noted to himself how pleasant the old man’s smile was and wanted to see it again, so he then offered him a root beer.
Again grateful, the man smiled. This was such a joy to the lad! All the afternoon they sat and ate cakes and drank root beer, but never said a word. Only nodding and smiling.
As it was beginning to draw near dusk, the lad realised he had become tired and got up to leave. Before he had moved more than a few steps away he turned around and ran back to the old man and gave him a hug. The old man gave his biggest smile of the day.
When opening the door to his house a short time later, the lad entered with a look of joy on his face, to his mother’s surprise. “What did you do today that made you so happy?” He answered, “I had lunch with God.” And before his mother was able to speak he added, “You know, God has the most wonderful smile I’ve ever seen!”
At the same time, the old man returned to his home, also full of joy. The son was stunned from the look of peace on his father’s face. “Dad, what did you do today that has given you so much happiness and joy?” The old man looked at his son and replied, “I ate twinky cakes in the park with God and he brought my favourite soda, root beer!” The son was speechless for a moment, but before he was able to respond his Dad added, “You know, he was so much younger than I expected”!
We should never allow ourselves or others to underestimate the magnitude of even the least potential to turn a life of disrepair with an act of caring and kindness a listening ear, a word of encouragement, a smile, the touch of an honest compliment; there is a reason, for a season, even a lifetime, that people come into someone’s life. So bring what you need to meet God – YOU!
