Make Moments Matter Appeal

Many of you will know about the services provided by Cornwall Hospice Care at its two adult hospices – Mount Edgcumbe at St. Austell and St. Julia’s in Hayle.
As hospice nurses we are passionate about the specialist care we give to patients and their families in Cornwall. We believe everyone with a life-limiting illness should be able to access the specialist services we provide. They should have relief from pain and other distressing symptoms to enable them to live their life to the full, for however long that may be. They should have the choice to die with dignity in a caring and supportive environment for both themselves and their loved ones.
As a charity we have been proud to offer specialist medical care as well as practical, emotional and spiritual support to so many thousands of patients. In fact, Cornwall has had an adult hospice service in the county for nearly 30 years.
However, it is with great sadness that we have to tell you that these services are at risk. We simply haven’t enough funds to meet our annual running costs of 5.3 million – that’s equivalent to 11 a minute.
At a time when we are faced with ever-rising costs we have noticed a huge drop in voluntary income due to the current economic climate, which means we are now facing a huge 1 million shortfall this year.
This is why we are appealing to you, the people of Cornwall, to consider making a small contribution and help secure the long-term future of this truly Cornish charity.
We want to be able to continue to help the thousands of families across Cornwall to cope at this very difficult time. It is not just our patients, but also their families, their children and loved ones that need us.
