2nd. Camborne Girls' Brigade

Think back to Christmas! Now come forward a bit into January to a dark, cold, wet and windy Friday night in the Church Hall. The girls were there as usual playing games and doing their badge work when Mrs. Rowers and I surprised them with a chocolate celebration cake and some special pop! What's to celebrate on a night like that?

Well! After twelve months of hard training Helen Rowers and Liz Rule were commissioned as officers in the Girls' Brigade. Training for this is like working for a degree in child psychology! A lot of evenings, a few Saturdays and even some days during the summer holidays they could be found engrossed over a power-point presentation, reading a Bible story to the girls or taking an activity session such as skipping or volleyball. Classes were mainly held in Cameroon with some in St. Outsell and also involved a visit to another company in Dobwalls.

They have both been in our company for many years. In fact Helen couldn't wait until she was 5 years old to join and we are very proud that, even with all the outside temptations, she has stayed with us, worked her way up through the ranks and has now become an officer. On the other hand Liz joined us about 14 years ago and many a parade she found herself on 'toilet duty', a task which she will now be able to delegate to someone else.

I am not sure when you will be reading this but please congratulate them when you see them as it is very difficult to get people to put in the commitment of being a youth leader without being asked to go through all the hard work and checks they had to endure to become officers.

Congratulations to our two new officers may they continue to seek, serve and follow christ.
