Notes from the Rectory
Advent was a wonderful time. We saw many different experiences of worship and many people come to worship God. My highlight was celebrating Communion at Midnight and sharing that experience with so many others. Over Lent, as we did over Advent, we are encouraging more people to gather in small groups to share and learn together. WHY? These first believers in the book of Acts wanted to meet together as often as possible, whether in a large or a small setting. Every day they continued to meet. In fact the Church is meant to have 2 wings. The large gathering on Sunday and the small group. Both wings were vital back then in Jerusalem; and they are today. God wants his church to have two wings so that it can fly.
What does the future hold?
1.We are continuing to grow more leaders. WHY? Because it's Biblical! In 1 Corinthians 12-14 we learn that God has deliberately designed his Church as a body where everyone is needed and everyone has a part to play. Clergy & readers do not have all the gifts/talents required to lead. By Growing Leaders we grow into what God intends us to be - The Body of Christ.
2.We have begun to dream dreams. So far many people have shared a common vision to reach out to families and young people and to create new spaces in our Church. We haven't yet begun to discuss flooring or heating. What decisions will we have made by the next edition? God knows. Our task is to listen to God who speaks through each of us and chooses to let go of anything that is not of Him.
To God be the glory!
