Camborne in Bloom
Camborne in Bloom
On 17th September representatives from our town travelled to Yeovil for the presentation of awards for the South West in Bloom competition. Tension was high – how would all the hard work of the last 12 months be judged against over 200 entries?
Camborne town was awarded a Silver Gilt in the Portman Cup – a fantastic achievement by the Town Council, all the businesses and the individuals who worked so hard to make Camborne flower to perfection back in June.
Around town, specific groups were recognised for their achievements: Pengegon Residents’ Association, Pengegon & Enys Road allotments. And the Red River Valley for outstanding nature conservation.
But most excitingly of all for our Church, the regeneration of the Churchyard over the last 18 months was awarded a well-deserved Certificate of Merit! Some of the improvements that have been made include the following:-
- Tarmac laid on paths
- Improved lighting
- Log-piles for insects and hibernating animals
- Bird boxes
- New railings
- Compost bins
- Victorian-style lanterns installed
- New bins
Improvements coming up in the future:-
- New notice board
- Restoration of tombs & headstones
- CCTV cameras to discourage misuse of the area
- Restoration of the Cornish wall by the Spinney
- Re-laying of stone around & general improvements to the Garden of Remembrance
A huge “thank you” must go to Donald Holmes & Brent Rogers, without whose hard work, inspiration and leadership many of these improvements would not have been made – Well Done!
