Balloons, Bunting And Bees!

Balloons, Bunting And Bees!

What was afoot on Saturday, 25th July in the grounds around Camborne Parish Church? The colour theme of black, white and gold gave us a clue – it was St. Martin’s Cornish Fayre! The event was opened by Town Mayor Bill Jenkins and from then on everyone had a good time. There were stalls selling books, cakes, china, crafts, gifts, toys etc. ‘Cousin Jack’ (Brian, really) had a lucky dip barrel and ‘Don and Den” ran the bottle stall (sorry, non-alcoholic chaps!). Celia and Barbara were in the kitchen ably assisted by a band of washers-up and, thanks to the weather, refreshments were served outside – such goodies as soup, pasties and mackerel salads followed by home-made hevva cake and Cornish fairings. Susan G. changed hats from “organiser” to “waitress” on the day and if anyone was concerned by the afore-mentioned “bees” – these were the cute “bee” motifs knitted by Carol for all the stallholders!

Entertainment included games and face painting for the children, with Cornish dances led by Helen. Then the St. Martin Singers regaled us with traditional folk songs with most of the people joining in. The Lord was gracious as the weather remained perfect and all of the church groups ‘mucked in1 together, ie. GB and BB, Sunday Clubs, Church Wives, dance and singing groups – it really was a lovely atmosphere. The end result was over £630 towards church funds – ALLELUIA!

What are we doing for Christmas, Susan?!?

Sad footnote: We said goodbye to Anita, Jodie and Sam as they fly out to Canada to join Kevin – Good luck and God Bless from all your friends at St. Martin’s.
